SPEED THE LIGHT Speed the Light (STL) is the student-initiated ministry that provides transportation and communications in equipment to missionaries across the nation and in over 180 countries around the world. Since its inception, STL has raised over $150 million for missionary equipment around the world. Speed the Light works because Assemblies of God youth across America are interested in seeing it work. Their sacrificial offerings - given monthly, quarterly, annually, and often spontaneously - are transformed into equipment to assist missionaries in reaching the lost. Equipment is provided for nationally-appointed world and home missions work, new church evangelism (stateside), home and world missions Bible schools, and Teen Challenge centers. Speed the Light began in 1944 after Ralph Harris, national Christ's Ambassadors secretary (now known as National Youth Ministries director), prayed for a way to channel Assemblies of God youth into worthwhile activities. Today Speed the Light is one of the most effective youth missions ministries in the church world. As part of the Assemblies of God National Youth Ministries (NYM), its purpose is to speed the spread of the gospel by providing transportation and communications equipment to missionaries around the world. The Arkansas District is the leader in cumulative Speed the Light giving since 1944. Arkansas has consistently been in the top five giving districts throughout STL history. Arkansas was Number 1 in the nation in Speed the Light for 2007 with a total of $594,869.81. Congratulations to the top ten churches:
